Lisbet Norris (33) grew up in Willow, Alaska surrounded by sled dogs from her parents' and grandparents' kennel: Alaskan Kennels, the oldest Siberian Husky kennel in the world. After high school, she moved to Fairbanks to attend the University of Alaska. Drawn to the Arctic, she also studied in Baffin Island and Norway, where she worked as a dog sledding guide.
Lisbet received her B.A. in Northern Studies and History from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2011 and decided then to turn her focus toward a long held dream: racing the 1000 mile Iditarod Sled Dog Race. After two years of internships, qualification races, and many hours of training and preparation, she completed her rookie Iditarod in 2014 with a team of AKC registered Siberian Huskies from the family kennel. She raced again in 2015, and 2016, each time finishing as the #1 Siberian Husky team.
In 2016, Lisbet and her partner Nils Pedersen bought their homestead north of Fairbanks and started their dog sledding company, Arctic Dog Adventure Co., with the intention of pursuing a nature-based, off-grid, sustainable lifestyle with their sled dogs and Karelian Bear Dogs. For the last six years, Lisbet, Nils, and their 47 Siberian Huskies have been teaching visitors how to mush their own small dog teams and guiding multi day dog sled tours into the remote wilderness surrounding their homestead. In 2017, Arctic Dog Adventure Co. was the first dog sledding company in Alaska to be certified as a Sustainable Tourism Business.
